Education has the power to transform lives and break the cycle of poverty. In regional Cambodia, the need for quality education is vital now more than ever.

About 2.1 million Cambodian adults cannot read, write or make simple calculations. Many school buildings are in disrepair, and without clean water or proper toilet facilities. Most teachers are teaching without training. Illiteracy and school dropout rates amongst young people are also alarmingly high.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Samaritan’s Purse is working to restore education for young Cambodians, so that they can step into a brighter future. Since 2007, we have been constructing new school buildings in local districts, supplying learning materials and training teachers to better support their students. So far, Samaritan’s Purse has built almost 40 schools in the Banteay Meanchey Province!

This means thousands of students and hundreds of teachers now have access to quality school buildings, designed with adequate space to learn and grow in a healthy, stimulating environment. But the impact goes beyond school grounds. We are helping students learn to read, write and discover their potential. Watch the video below to learn more about our work in Cambodia.

In the next 12 months, we plan to build four more primary schools and equip 13 schools with resources for students, and training for teachers. Will you help fund our education projects? Your gift can help lead young people in Cambodia towards a brighter future.

“Education is a generational blessing. We want to support these communities however we can in the Name of Jesus Christ. Thank you for loving these communities as much as we do," said international projects manager, Jodie Reid.

“My parents live in poverty, I live in poverty and my boys have also grown up in poverty, but I hope to see my grandchildren live a better life. Education is the only answer to escaping this cycle."

BUILDING A DOOR TO HOPE

Having grown up in a destitute family, when her parents could no longer afford her uniform or study materials, Pea Kimleng had no choice but to quit school. But hope was not far away.

SEAN SOK SANITA’S STORY

“I love technology and I was so excited when I saw the robot at the STEM Fair! My dream came true when Samaritan’s Purse provided robotics classes in my school.”

Quality education can lift marginalised children out of the cycle of poverty, helping them avoid the risks of exploitation and human trafficking, and equipping them to support themselves and their families. We praise God for the lives that have already been transformed through our education projects. But the education dilemma has not yet been solved.

There are still dozens of schools to be built, hundreds of classrooms to be filled with learning opportunities, thousands of families searching for hope and millions of young people who deserve a brighter future.
