Parenting Training Transforms Cambodian families

Ny is 31 years old. Since 2006, she and her husband have lived with their five children in the village of Sapor, Cambodia. It’s about 20 kilometers from the bustling city of Phnom Penh. Ny and her family moved to Sapor in 2006 when she decided to stop working and devote more time to mothering her children.

When Samaritan’s Purse conducted parenting training in Sapor recently, Ny was one of the participants we met. Shortly after she started the parenting lessons, she began to experience some dramatic changes in her life.

Ny shares in her own words, “I was so happy to have the chance to learn about parenting. I used to be an angry person and whatever my husband did was never enough. I was so angry sometimes that I would scream at my husband and children for no reason at all. It was clear that my husband didn’t like the way I acted. “After the parenting lessons, I began practicing things I learned with my family. And everything began to change! In the past, I never got up early to do anything for my husband or my children. But now, I wake up early to clean the house, prepare food and wash clothes so when my husband and children get up, everything is ready. “In just a very short time, my family has become so much happier. My children now feel love from me instead of anger and bitterness. I try to show patience with them and… speak with kind words. “I would like to thank Samaritan’s Purse for making the effort to come and teach us about good parenting. All the lessons have been so useful to my family and me. If everyone practiced what they taught us, they would have much happier families too. I pray that Samaritan’s Purse would continue training parents in my community because so many of the familes around me need a change as well.”

Hearing those words from Ny underscores the important role your support plays in helping families like hers become stronger. And this is the kind of change we’ve seen through our community parenting training classes in places like Cambodia. So on behalf of the families who’ve been transformed, thank you for your support!
