Helping Hands in New South Wales

With COVID-19 continuing to impact the physical, emotional and financial health of Australians, Samaritan’s Purse is mobilising its church partners to reach people who are suffering in their local communities.

In Padstow, New South Wales, South West Christian Church – one of our church partners – recently launched its Food Distribution Program, an outreach initiative to bless people in need in the local community with food hampers.

“We are so thankful to be partnering with Samaritan’s Purse,” said Pastor Rob Lo Surdo. “This partnership has helped us start this initiative, which is already proving to be a blessing in our community.”

The church’s staff and volunteers have been preparing food hampers for international students who have lost their jobs, families that are recuperating from COVID-19 and those who are facing severe financial distress.

“The responses have been overwhelming. The hampers have been received with tears of joy,” shared Pastor Rob. “One family exclaimed that they did not know how they were going to provide food for their family that night, until the received the hamper.”

“Another person who was also feeling isolated has now connected with our church and even attended our daily online prayer meetings a few times.”

We praise God for the opportunities He has given South West Christian Church and Samaritan’s Purse to rally together, serving hurting Australians in the Name of Jesus Christ.

In Chatswood, our team has been able to come alongside LifeSource Christian Church to support their FoodCare program – a food distribution ministry for those impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns and facing other hardships in the local community.

“Peter*, a single dad with six children, has been through long periods of unemployment in recent years and has struggled to provide for his family,” said Kay Waddle, LifeSource Christian Church – Community Care Administrator. “In the last two years, he has been supported by our FoodCare program.”

“He expressed his deep appreciation both for the supply of good food we offer and the services of our Chaplains who have been able to refer him to community agencies that can assist him with his other financial wellbeing needs.”

Churches like South West Christian Church and LifeSource Christian Church are a source of light and hope in the community. We are thankful to have the opportunity to walk alongside these churches, and help them be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.
