In March 2018, bushfires raged in Tathra NSW, causing damage to over 100 homes. Samaritan’s Purse deployed our Disaster Relief Unit and a team of volunteers to work alongside home owners during the recovery period. Our volunteers completed 66 work orders and delivered 70 bushfire recovery kits filled with tools that are useful in the process of cleaning up and searching for items of personal value that survived the fires.

The people of Tathra have shown a lot of gratitude for the help offered by the volunteers. One resident shares, “Thank you so much for the fire recovery kits and for organising us the most amazing volunteers. My mum lost her home in the Tathra fires and the amount of work they got done today to clear the driveway so machinery can get in was incredible. We can’t thank the lovely, hardworking volunteers enough! And I know many others in Tathra who have been putting their kits to good use.”

Whilst Samaritan’s Purse assists with physical recovery after a disaster people also have emotional needs. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Rapid Response Team chaplains have deployed alongside Samaritan’s Purse, to support volunteers and home owners. In Tathra alone they prayed with 30 home owners in the aftermath of the fires. Please pray for the residents of Tathra as they recover from this traumatic event.
