Responding to Lismore in Wake of Disaster

May 2nd 2022

Southeast QLD and northern NSW have been devastated by unprecedented catastrophic flooding.  Devastating rain forced Lismore’s Wilsons River to more than 14 metres in February and over 11 metres a month later in March, displacing nearly all 40,000 residents and significantly impacting over 10,000 homes, nearly half of which have been deemed un-inhabitable.

This Samaritan’s Purse is responding to major flooding in the areas of Lismore, and south of Lismore into Coraki, Woodburn, Broadwater, Wardell, and surrounding areas.

Volunteers Clay and Gary helping prepare containers of mould treating sanitiser at the Resilient Lismore hub.

In the wake of these devastating floods, Samaritan’s Purse is privileged by donors, church partners and volunteers to serve the affected community of Goodna in an impactful way with labourers, site-leaders and office administrators coming together to assist homeowners in removing flood-damaged furniture, cabinetry, walls, and floors as well as sanitising timber frames to prevent mould ingress.

With a long road to recovery ahead in Lismore, Samaritan’s Purse has so far completed acquired 29 home work orders and has completed 3 homes to date.  This has been made possible by generous donors, church partners and volunteers coming together, helping in Jesus’ Name.

Please continue to pray for those who have lost so much, and for our team as they continue relief efforts on the ground as the recovery is expected to continue months after the floods.
