ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- – Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
- – Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry and ongoing response.
- – Deploy internationally to disaster settings as part of the DART team, serving with fellow members to further Samaritan’s Purse’s mission.
- – Follow the policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.
- – Examine and diagnose diseases and injuries to all body parts and systems.
- – Analyse medical history and patient records to develop the best plan of care.
- – Complete clinical assessments and diagnoses with the use of basic laboratory tests and basic imaging.
- – Prescribe course of treatment for patients with injuries, disorders, or malformations and perform required surgeries.
- – Prescribe medications in accordance with the Samaritan’s Purse formularies.
- – Monitor the patients’ condition following surgery and coordinates changes to the plan of care with other medical and nursing staff.
- – Conduct and supervise direct patient care, including some non-surgical treatment options.
- – Maintain historical records and data collection by documenting symptoms, medications, treatment events, and summaries as requested.
- – Practice standard precautions and maintain the integrity of sterile supplies and equipment.
- – Collaborate with emergency, medical, critical care, and specialty teams.
- – Provide both outpatient consultation and inpatient hospital services.
- – Consult with local providers and health officials as requested by Clinical Director.
- – Minister to patients with a bedside manner reflective of the Christian witness.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- – Post-residents with a minimum of two years of general surgical experience in a hospital setting (time spent in surgical residency is applicable to meet the minimum requirement).
- – Surgical experience within the last five years in a primary operating role.
- – Completion of accredited training as a surgeon specialising in General Surgery with a current active licence.
- – Available on short notice for deployment of 3–4 weeks, once or twice per year.
- – Able to serve within a very fast-paced environment, 7 days a week for extended hours while on deployment.
- – Previous surgical experience in developing countries.
- – Willingness to work in unstable, insecure areas.
- – Able to work as a member of a team, particularly cross-culturally.
- – Teaching experience.
