ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- – Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
- – Deploy internationally to disaster settings as part of the DART team, serving with fellow members to further Samaritan’s Purse’s mission.
- – Attend daily devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry and ongoing response.
- – Follow the policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.
- – Prepare the operating room environment and equipment to maximise patient safety.
- – Prepare and anticipate all supplies required for surgical intervention.
- – Ensure the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in OR.
- – Perform instrument counts for each procedure.
- – Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure.
- – Monitor and provide supportive care during pre-op, surgical, and post-op phases.
- – Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by assisting with instruments and supplies during the procedures, as directed by the surgeon.
- – Works as circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse.
- – Review charts for completeness, in accordance with documentation protocols prior to and after the surgical procedure.
- – Communicate with patients, surgeons, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
- – Collect and label specimens taken during surgical procedures.
- – Clean and prepare instruments for sterilisation.
- – Keep accurate documentation throughout the procedure.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- – Minimum of two years of nursing experience in a surgical setting.
- – Clinical surgical experience within the last five years.
- – Completion of accredited training as a Registered Nurse with current active licensure and board certification.
- – Available on short notice for deployment of 3-4 weeks, once or twice per year.
- – Able to serve within a very fast-paced environment, 7 days a week for extended hours while on deployment.
- – Demonstrated travel, volunteer or work experience in developing countries.
- – Willingness to work in unstable, insecure areas.
- – Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-culturally with a variety of health and non-health team members.
- – Familiarity with all surgical instruments and equipment.
- – Working knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques.
- – Highly detail-oriented in all areas of work.
- – Experience with multiple surgical specialties or general surgery.
- – Teaching experience.
