Water & Hygiene
An Unexpected Double Blessing
17 March 2025
Samaritan’s Purse’s WASH program is restoring dignity by providing accessible sanitation to vulnerable individuals like 71-year-old Thia in Trà Vinh.
Dao Thi Thu Thuy, a student at Hoang Lien School, shared how the hygiene lessons helped change her behaviour toward hygiene and sanitation: “In the past, my friends and I often defecated in the bushes since the toilets were smelly and had no water at times. Now we know it’s important to keep the toilet clean and use the toilets instead of practicing open defecation to prevent environmental pollution and a place for flies and mosquitoes to breed.”
Mr. Vang A Long, the vice principal of Hoang Lien School, expressed his gratitude for the support from Samaritan’s Purse: “Thank you Samaritan’s Purse for such an impactful project. It improved our students’ knowledge of hygiene and sanitation. It has also created a healthy school environment where good hygiene behaviours are encouraged and integrated in their daily routines and activities.”
