For many children, the start of a new school year is filled with excitement—a new lunchbox, uniform, and the promise of learning and growth. These are blessings we’re fortunate to provide for our own children.
However, for countless children around the world, these simple joys are out of reach. The opportunity to attend school—a chance to learn, dream, and build a future—is a gift they can only hope for.
As you see children starting school this year, will you consider making a difference in another child’s life? Jesus said, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me” (Mark 9:37, ESV).
By giving, you can provide a child — or an entire classroom — the tools they need to thrive through education. Together, we can help transform lives.

12- year-old Srey attends Krachab primary school, located in Pailin, a rural northern province of Cambodia. She is the youngest of five siblings and her parents work across the border in Thailand to secure enough income to make ends meet.
At school, Srey’s literacy levels were below the grade standard, causing her to fall behind across several subjects. Frustrated, she began to skip classes, becoming socially withdrawn when her friends would mock her for mispronouncing words during classes.
In 2024, Samaritan’s Purse implemented the We Can Read and Write (WCRW) Program in Sret’s school. The program provided additional training for teachers to equip them with new strategies to coach students who are falling behind.
Soon after, Srey was given the opportunity to attend make-up classes to receive extra support so she could catch to her classmates. She and other struggling students received intensive lessons to improve their reading of consonants, vowels, simple words and sentences.
Sret acknowledges that without the extra classes, she could not have hoped to catch up. She no longer felt alone in her struggle to improve. “My teacher helps us every day. I like learning with her so much.”, she shared.
Now Srey has a renewed passion for learning, she is always on time and never misses classes. Her family is delighted to witness her improved confidence and enthusiasm towards school—where she now helps her classmates by sharing what she’s learned.
Samaritan’s Purse is committed to delivering a brighter future to thousands of Cambodian children just like Srey. Supported by generous partners from Australia and New Zealand, our in-country team work to provide world-class education through the implementation of programs, resources and even entire school buildings! Your prayer and support forms part of the life-changing work we are privileged to undertake in Cambodia.
