Dear Friend,
Our team hit the ground running. On 6 April, members of our Disaster Assistance Response Team, which includes doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, began performing surgeries in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar. We are working near the epicentre of the deadly earthquake that struck on March 28.
Our full-scale Emergency Field Hospital is equipped with an ICU, emergency room, pharmacy, laboratory, and two operating theatres where we have performed hundreds of surgeries.
More than 3,500 are confirmed dead in Myanmar, and thousands more have been injured. The surgical needs in the hardest-hit areas are overwhelming, and the local hospitals are at capacity. Nearly 100 people who were hurt in the disaster, many of them with broken arms and legs, were already waiting for surgery in Naypyidaw when we arrived.
Our team on the ground have also unloaded 85,000kg of critical supplies from a 747-cargo plane that arrived from Greenville, South Carolina, including six water filtration systems, tarps, solar lights, hygiene kits, blankets, and more.
Please pray earnestly for the people of Myanmar who are suffering and for our teams as they serve as the hands and feet of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. As Scripture commands us, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
Sincerely,
Franklin Graham
President, Samaritan’s Purse
