Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37-38).
Water is absolutely essential for life. When Hurricane Helene swept through western North Carolina where I live a few months ago, it destroyed homes, uprooted trees, knocked out power, and left many areas without functioning water and sewer systems. We launched a largescale response, including airlifts of critical supplies such as clean water. One of our team members described how one woman began sobbing when he handed her two gallons of fresh water. It was a stark reminder that what so many of us often take for granted is a precious commodity for millions of people.
Samaritan’s Purse is working around the world to bring safe water along with the Living Water of the Lord Jesus Christ to struggling communities, such as remote areas of Vietnam where waterborne illnesses are common and have the potential to kill vulnerable people like children and the elderly. In South Sudan, we are upgrading a series of borehole wells with solar-powered pumps, and in Ukraine we are providing fresh drinking water to a war-torn town that had its water supply compromised due to the ongoing conflict.
