Echuca, VIC | Flood Relief | 2022

On October 12, consecutive months of record rainfall in central Victoria came to a head when the region’s Murray-Darling system of rivers and creeks breached, impacting over 15,000 residents. Samaritan’s Purse Australian Disaster Relief Team has been on the ground since October 24 assessing the damage and working with the community’s churches and relief centres. A church partner has been established with Echuca Community Church and will form a base for operations in Echuca and Rochester.

Lismore, NSW | Flood Relief | 2022

In May 2022, Samaritan’s Purse Australian Disaster Relief deployed to Lismore, NSW in response to the devastation caused by flooding. Volunteers assisting homeowners whose properties were destroyed by the floods by removing flood-damaged furniture, cabinetry, walls, and floors as well as sanitising timber frames to prevent mould ingress.

Bundaberg, QLD | Flood Relief | 2013

27 July 2022

Cyclone Oswald triggered torrential rain and a series of tornados which resulted in devastating floods throughout Queensland. Bundaberg was one of the worst affected regions as the Burnett River peaked at a record 9.6 metres, damaging approximately 2,000 homes and businesses and leaving 7,500 residents displaced. Samaritan’s Purse deployed a disaster response team to Bundaberg and worked with around 65 volunteers to clean flood-affected properties over a 3-month period.

Springwood, NSW | Bushfire Relief | 2013

27 July 2022

On Thursday 17 October, numerous fires broke out around New South Wales, including the Linksview Road fire in Springwood. This fire destroyed 196 homes in one day as it burned on three fronts: Linksview Road, Mount York, and State Mine. This was the largest fire impacting the most properties, in New South Wales, in more than 10 years. This then led to the New South Wales government to declare a state of emergency. Samaritan’s Purse responded, delivering 200 bushfire recovery kits to help affected families sift through the rubble and deploying 84 volunteers who completed 37 work orders on badly damaged or destroyed homes.

Sampson Flat & Pinery, SA | Bushfire Relief | 2015

27 July 2022

The 2015 Sampson Flat bushfire was in the northern Adelaide Hills and the outer Adelaide metropolitan area. The fire began on 2 January 2015 during a day of extreme heat and lasted until 9 January 2015, burning more than 20,000 hectares of land. The Pinery bushfire primarily affected the lower mid north and west Barossa Valley regions immediately north of Gawler, South Australia. The Pinery bushfire destroyed 91 houses from 25 November to 2 December of 2015. Teams deployed to South Australia to help in the recovery process in the fire-affected regions after a request from the South Australia State Recovery Office. Press reports stated that more than 80 homes were destroyed or seriously damaged.
